But good news - if you have a 3G phone you can pick up a 3G sim card from the airport for 105Y per day. That's 2205Y for the 21 days we're in the country.
Would be great if 2 or 3 of us had this so we can stay in contact. We could agree to share the cost around the team.
i was just going to roam with optus and use my phone... will that work?
ReplyDeleteDon't see why not. You'll be charged for all INCOMING calls so it's best to set it up to divert all calls to message bank. Let regular callers to you know that they should text you instead. Whether we hire sim cards and/or use roaming, the call rates are ridiculously high but texts are manageable.
ReplyDeletelol true - optus roaming in japan: $3.30 a minute outgoing calls, $1.17 a minute to receive calls!
ReplyDeletei'll be bringing my 3g phone if we need any phones...and will need to get a converter to charge my phone..anyone know where to get any?
ReplyDeleteif your phone can charge via USB it's probably easier to find a computer to plug it into. otherwise you can buy a converter with only 2 holes for pins (no earthing on the pins)so if your mobile charger has only 2 pins then you can use it with the converter :) like the one we saw today :)
ReplyDeletei think i'll get a 3G card to use..since my phone has 3G i believe..would it be more cost effective to use the local networks while we're there?
